Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a field that is rapidly evolving that has gained in pupluarity in the last few years. The idea is to create machines that can “think”, “learn”, and problem solve like humans.
The subfields of AI include machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision and robotics.
The particular field that is of interest for this blog is the field of Machine Learning, where algorithms are trained on large datasets to learn patterns and make predictions or decisions without being explicitly programmed to do so.
There are numerous fields and applications of AI. In healthcare, AI can be used to analyze medical images, diagnose diseases, and develop personalized treatment plans. In finance, AI algorithms are used to analyze market trends, predict stock prices and automate trading. AI is used also in vehicles like Teslas for automonous driving. Other fields of application are virtual assistants, and fraud detection systems, and many, many more applications that are still to be discovered.
There is great potential with this emerging technology, yet with this potential also come many ethical and societal concerns. As AI deveops there is a need to ensure transparency and accountability in the decisionmaking processes. while understanding and gettgin ahead of privacy and security ramifications.
AI is a field that tries to develop computer systems to be able perform tasks that were traditionally done by humans. The development is done using algorithms and models that enable machines to “think”, “learn” and “problem solve”. The fields and industries of application are many and we are still only scratching the surface of what may be possible with this new technology, yet like Ikarus we have to be careful and not fly too close to the sun, by ignoring ethical, societal, privacy and security concerns.
